About the Artisit

Paul Mirfin was born in Sheffield in 1974 and now lives and works in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire.  He is a self taught artist and only began oil painting during the Covid19 pandemic in 2021.  He began by painting views from the cab of the trains that he works on as a train conductor on the Harrogate line for 20 years. His first oil painting was of Knaresborough signal box next to the railway station.  He found a style which drew out the vibrancy of the skies and used a strong palette of colour.  He then moved onto landscapes and seascapes with a focus on climactic skies in a Post-Impressionist style.

As well as painting scenes and views,  Paul also paints railway structures such as the Gantry at Leeds Station and well known viaducts.  This interest in architecture led to a more recent series of oil paintings of football stadiums including Harrogate Town AFC and Sheffield Wednesday FC.  He has now been commissioned to paint portraits which include well known celebrities.

His first exhibition was commissioned by Harrogate Railway Station which led to a commission to paint a mural in the Station Supervisor's Office.  Paul exhibits at Art In The Mill Gallery and Northernlinearts Knaresborough.  Paul's latest exhibition ' The Holy Art Fair' has been in The OXO Tower in London displaying his Holy artworks.
